US Navy Seals and particularly Seal Team 6 loss is being rejoiced in Pak media (Urdu press). Meanwhile their bodies are being sent back to the US
Many in Pakistan are rejoicing the death of US Navy Seals commandos that were killed two days ago in Afghanistan’s Saed Abad district. The loss of a helicopter is not new in Afghanistan. Difficult terrain and the fear of the enemy fire always keep the troops on their toes.
But helicopters cannot be abandoned as these are the most important source of deployment of troops and supplies in far flung areas. Due to the lack of good roads, the Nato and US forces in Afghanistan use helicopters in larger numbers than anywhere else.
But at a time when everyone in the US is mourning the death of the Navy Seals there are people in its closes ally in South Asia, Pakistan who are rejoicing the death of the Navy Seals who had taken part in a commando operation that had culminated in the death of Usama bin Laden. Bin Laden was alleged to be behind 9/11 bombing of the twin towers.
An editorial in Pakistan’s leading Urdu daily Jasarat, that is run by Jamat-e-Islami begins with a Quranic ayah that translates into “Take lesson O men of vision”.
Then the editorial goes on to detail the US misadventure in Afghanistan and Pakistan and says that the US government is faced with its biggest defeat in the region. While talking about the helicopter crash the editorial says, “Mujahideen in Afghanistan shot down a Chinook helicopter in Wardak province. 34 American marines were killed in the downing of the aircraft. This includes 20 American Seal commandos. Their biggest accomplishment in their whole life is said to be their participation in Abotabad Operation. It was only after this operation that American President announced the ‘martyrdom’ of Usama bin laden and the victory of the US army in Afghanistan.”.
