White iPod Touch release date nears: being given a new life

24 July, 2011

If reports are to be believed, White iPod Touch release date is expected to be in September. iPod Touch is being given a new lease of life by Apple

There are reports that Cupertino based manufacturer of smartphone and macbooks, Apple is planning to launch an iPod Touch within the next few months. If these rumors are indeed true, the company is set to give new reason for its fanboys to go for the new baby from Apple.

Meanwhile with these new rounds of rumors, the list of new and improved products awaiting the launch in September is getting a bit longer. We are going have a new iPhone 5 with a new A5 processor and 8 mega pixel camera besides the all new iPad 3 with a new A-6 processor.

Many had thought that Apple was not giving real importance to iPod, the product that brought back the company from an imminent threat of being thrown into oblivion.

But now it seems that Apple may not forget this money minting product despite the fact that it has found new and better money spinning products including iPhone and iPad besides of course a host of other products.

A report in Apple Insider claims that the product that once was the main revenue generator for Cupertino based technology major is now contributing merely a five percent in the company’s revenue. Nevertheless the company believes that it is still a cash cow and it should not be left to die itself.

But a reader says that the rumor may be nothing more than just a rumor and that there are reason to believe that the iPod Touch will begin to be phased out this year. It will likely only ship in a single low cost $200 8GB model (in white perhaps). The high end models starting at $300 will be replaced with a new pay as you go iPhone. The iPhone would be able to do everything an iPod Touch can currently do plus have access to cellular voice and/or data. Apple may even throw in some kind of free data service for app and iTunes downloads like the Kindle does for books. If they make the right deals, it could even come with limited free web browsing and iCloud syncing.
